FBC Huntsville's RA Campout

The First Baptist Huntsville RA's have been coming up to the camp for a long time. I was able to spend a little time with Wesley Blake who was making his last trip. Wesley said that best he could recall this was his 14th year.
Charles and some other guys I spoke with said they had not yet put together a plan for when he would not be with them....seeing how Wesley is not only the set-up man but also the cook. Things went well with a couple of tarps hanging up to block off the breeze.

The boys made their way to the outdoor recreation area where they participated in some air rifle practice and a bout of archery. Nick Farrow from Willowbrook was kind enough to help the boys out with the bow and arrows.
They did have the Christian juggler and entertainer/missionary and his family with them again this year. There was a little late night flashlight tag and then folks made it to their tents.

Willowbrook's Father/Son and Father/Daughter Weekend

Willowbrook pulled off a great weekend of camping, starting off with their Father/Son Campout on Friday overnight into Saturday.
The guys came in and got tents set up in the main campground and enjoyed an evening around the campfire.

Saturday morning found them out at the obstacle course:
And also at the various stations, working on blow dart skills, archery, hatchet throwing, and air rifle practice!

At lunchtime, the father/daughter group came in and both groups enjoyed lunch and a very personable missionary who spoke to them all.

The fathers and daughters also took an afternoon of going through the stations, after setting up their tents.  They had a fabulous time and while the numbers were close, there were 75 in the father/son group and 80 in the father/daughter group!

We hope to have *both* groups back again soon!

Alert Cadets

We hosted the Alabama 3rd Alpha Alert Cadets this past weekend.  This is their third annual Camp MACOBA camp out and we were very pleased to see them!

The guys set up camp in the area behind the pavilion . . .

And along with some archery skills practice:
They also did some brush hauling to help clean up around the property.

We really appreciate their hard work!

The group had a great weekend and we look forward to hosting them again next year (if we can't get them here in the fall)!

RAs from First Baptist Huntsville

You never know what kind of weather you're going to have in November in North Alabama - temps in the 70's or temps in the 30's - but either way, as long as the rain holds off, you've got a good set-up for a camping weekend, which is just what the RAs from FBC Huntsville enjoyed.
They came in on Saturday after lunch and spent some time setting up camp

Then the group spent some time under the tutelage of archery guru, Chris Hester! Chris volunteered to come up and spend some time going over safety and basic archery instructions with all the young guys.
Then it was time to head up to the field to put arrow to bow (to target) . . .
We really appreciated Chris taking time to come out and share his love and passion for archery with these young guys!

The boys had a marvelous weekend.  Sunday morning they woke up to a chilly morning and had worship under the pavilion with a blazing fire going.
Minister of Missions Mike Pearce even picked up the guitar and led them in their praise time!

This group has been a great friend to the camp and we enjoy it when they stay with us!

MBA Father-Son Camp Out

They couldn't have had finer weather for a fall camp out . . . the temps were cool but not cold, the sky was clear, and the camp fires smelled so good!
For this year's annual MBA-wide Father-Son camp out, we had about 135 lads and dads, and if the laughter and shouting were any indication, they all had a marvelous time.  The weekend's activities included archery practice:
Pellet gun practice:
Sling shot practice:
And even a little blow gun practice:

The guys had lists of activities . . .
And they were checking it twice!

You couldn't see the forest for the tents!
Good fellowship, good food, and good fun.

And maybe a little fishing . . .

MBA Father/Son Camp-Out 2013

What a perfect weekend for camping and the turn-out was great for the annual Father/Son camp-out! There were the usual fun activities such as bow shooting, air rifles, hatchet throwing, sling shots and blow darts thrown in with plenty of food.

Exploring the trails and fishing took place as well. This year was a bit different as Jeff Whitehead and a group from Hillwood Baptist provided some great music. I overheard several comments throughout the day about what a great addition this was to the event.

As always Chris Wilson did a great job putting this thing together and Sam Kelly was all over the place taking care of many different things.

We saw several friends in this group including Evan Wagner and Matthew Hillis.
Speaking of Evan, we were all over at the obstacle course when it began raining acorns and Evan took a few direct hits.

The kids went through the course just fine though I don't remember seeing any of the dads take their turn. I think Jeff Whitehead said he went through it....surely there are witnesses.

We are already looking forward to next year !
