Annual Pastors' Fish Fry

Each year, to finish out the Minister's Conference schedule, the pastors meet at the camp for a fish fry.  New Hope Baptist, who had been up to the camp the day before for a church picnic, left their nifty fish-frying grill to use, which was very handy!
We had a good turnout and great food.
Followed by some great preaching by Rev. Troy Garner.
A couple of the guys headed down to the pond to do a little fishing, but before they trekked out, we remembered to grab a group shot.  Good looking bunch, right?

MBA Father-Son Camp Out

They couldn't have had finer weather for a fall camp out . . . the temps were cool but not cold, the sky was clear, and the camp fires smelled so good!
For this year's annual MBA-wide Father-Son camp out, we had about 135 lads and dads, and if the laughter and shouting were any indication, they all had a marvelous time.  The weekend's activities included archery practice:
Pellet gun practice:
Sling shot practice:
And even a little blow gun practice:

The guys had lists of activities . . .
And they were checking it twice!

You couldn't see the forest for the tents!
Good fellowship, good food, and good fun.

And maybe a little fishing . . .

MBA Father/Son Camp-Out 2013

What a perfect weekend for camping and the turn-out was great for the annual Father/Son camp-out! There were the usual fun activities such as bow shooting, air rifles, hatchet throwing, sling shots and blow darts thrown in with plenty of food.

Exploring the trails and fishing took place as well. This year was a bit different as Jeff Whitehead and a group from Hillwood Baptist provided some great music. I overheard several comments throughout the day about what a great addition this was to the event.

As always Chris Wilson did a great job putting this thing together and Sam Kelly was all over the place taking care of many different things.

We saw several friends in this group including Evan Wagner and Matthew Hillis.
Speaking of Evan, we were all over at the obstacle course when it began raining acorns and Evan took a few direct hits.

The kids went through the course just fine though I don't remember seeing any of the dads take their turn. I think Jeff Whitehead said he went through it....surely there are witnesses.

We are already looking forward to next year !

MBA Annual Father-Son Camp Out

It has become a tradition for the MBA Father/Son Camp-Out to be hosted at Camp MACOBA late in the fall, and we always look forward to this event.  The men who put this on are quite experienced and really know what they are doing.  Sam Kelly reminds me of the main character from a TV show that used to come on years ago called MacGyver.

This year's pumpkin throwing contest went very well and Chris Wilson's group almost pulled it off except for a late comer.

I had hoped to get video of this event but missed timed it.  They picked a beautiful weekend and many logs went down as well.

The missionary was a good speaker and held the boys attention as he showed a few slides, played the guitar and spoke of his many flying missions.

Disaster Relief Training

Rob Peavy had called me a week or so ago and wanted to set up some disaster relief training at the camp on the same day we had the Dads and Lads Super Saturday.
Since they were going to be training in a completely different part of the camp it was no problem to accommodate both groups.  Rob and his wife stopped by for a visit one afternoon and we chatted for awhile about various things.  It was good to see them.
I opened the gate at around 6:00 a.m. for both groups.  David Cochran from Mt. Zion came up with the group to do some training.
Now you talk about a busy man; David is definitely that man.  Since the tornadoes he has been very busy with so many ministry-related things on top of what he does normally.
I took some pictures while he was training a group and noticed how knowledgeable and professional he was.
Jennifer Johnson, who I had met earlier in the week was there and busy doing many things.  It is my understanding that Jennifer was totally involved in the ministry to Pearlington, MS, and made quite a difference down there.
I went around to several of the different stations and it appeared everything went smoothly.
I believe Jennifer told me there were 46 signed up for training.
This is not the first time we have had disaster relief teams up at the camp, we love to see them coming.  Not only do they get a great atmosphere for training, but the camp gets the benefit of having dead/dying trees safely cut down!
