FBC Meridianville Children's Ministry Campout

Weather ... rain, rain and more rain ... caused a lot of cancellations for the end of February/early March, but the weather this past weekend was perfect!

The Children's Group from First Baptist Meridianville came out late Friday afternoon and got settled in the cabin. This was their second overnighter with us.  We had a fire going for them in the pavilion and the heaters turned on in the cabin!

Friday evening they had dinner and a sweet time of Bible teaching . . .

Saturday morning was chilly, but they stoked that fire quickly and served breakfast.  From there they had a Bible study, did a little exploring and hiking, came back to the pavilion for more Bible study and then did an early lunch.

We hope they enjoyed their visit as much as we enjoyed having them out!

Huntsville Park JAM!

Typically, August is not the month you want to camp ... it's hot, humid, and the bugs are, well, buggy!  But this summer has been anything but typical and the weather (after a stormy start) was quite lovely for an over-nighter when the group from Huntsville Park arrived Friday afternoon.
This was their annual JAM (Jesus and Me) camp for their children's department and they had a great crowd. About thirty children plus another ten youth workers and assorted adults.

The first order of business, while the cook got dinner on the grill, was for the kids--under youth supervision (or maybe it was the other way around)--to get the tents set up!

Once that was taken care of, they settled down to the business of having a good time, eating dinner and settling in for the night!

The next morning came in bright and clear and the group had breakfast and then settled in for morning devotions.
When their devotional time was finished, they moved onto game time!

One of their games involved a bowl, goggles, an M&M and whipped cream.  Definitely not a game for the feint of heart!

All in all, the group had a great time and we were happy to have them here ... and hope to have them back again soon!

Lighthouse Families Return for a Fishing Day

Lighthouse Baptist is one of our favorite groups to have up at the camp.  We have a long history with them and consider the pastor, Brother Randy, and his wife, Miranda, our close and dear friends.

On Saturday morning, Brian and Dena came on up early to get everything set-up for the group.  This turned out to be a perfect autumn day; cool in the morning and low 70's at mid-day.  Everyone ate lunch before getting started and Brian was the grillmaster for the day.
Steve helped everyone with bait and fishing tackle.  Then, once lunch was over, everyone headed on down to the pond.  Not sure how many fish were actually caught but the scenery sure was beautiful.  After awhile folks made their way back to the pavilion for a scavenger hunt to end the days festivities.  We look forward to their return in the future!

Huntsville Park Children's Campout!

It was good to see Clay Martin and the Huntsville Park Children's ministry at the camp this past weekend.
Storms rolled through on Friday afternoon, but they were pretty much gone by the time the whole crew arrived arrived early that evening.  Once the "weather" moved through it left them with a wonderful weekend with temperatures very nice for August...only in the 80's...clear skies, a nice breeze, and low humidity.  Perfect camping weather!

While I did not get to spend time with them on Friday evening, I did wander over and do a little mingling on Saturday morning.  Clay had been up to the camp before but he said it had been about seven years ago.  He also commented that there had been several good changes to the camp since then.
They all stayed in the main campground area and I did manage to get a few pictures before all the tents had been taken down.

I caught Clay doing a little teaching around the campfire in one.  By the time I realized there were two groups, the other group was returning from their study time on the deck at Serenity Pond.
I met Pastor Milon's daughter and several other great folks.  We look forward to their return in the near future!
